This map is from the third edition of Carey’s American Pocket Atlas; containing twenty maps... with a brief description of each state and of Louisiana... third edition, greatly improved and englarged (1805). The volume is significant for its new cartographic and textual information relating to theLouisiana Purchase and its map of the region published during the Lewis & Clark expedition. This map of Ohio is among the first to depict the state following its entry into the Union. It was printed from the same plate as the previous maps of the “Northwest Territory” in Mathew Carey’s editions but with changes to the plate reflecting statehood.
