Illinois-Indiana Territory (1810)
Subject
Indiana--Maps.
Illinois--Maps.
Description
From the National Archives, Record Group 77, Lundin #171.
Reverse side of the original map reads: "I have caused another copy to be made from the rough sketch which I had prepared. Altho the [exact] it is not [very] neatly or delicately executed. I hope it will be sufficient to shew the relative situation of the country as to be territorial Indian boundaries etc. The west line of the territory is not correctly laid down. From the best information I can obtain the line will not run more than six miles west of [this] place. The west makes a bend before it passes Vincennes to the west. The West line of this territory running due north leaves a portion of the river above Vincennes [for] the Illinois [ ] crosses the river about thirty miles below the post and I have before stated passes this palce about six miles to the west. I forward this lest my former communication may have miscarried. W. Morgan"
A note was added to the reverse side of the GLOVE copy: “This has to date after Fort Harmar was established, and Ohio became a state (1803). Both are mentioned on the map. EW-V. Latest date appears to be Miami Purchase (north fork of White River) September 30, 1809”
