Description
One of two maps in this collection by French military officer Georges Henri Victor Collot (1750-1805) during his 1796 reconnoitering expedition through the Illinois and Louisiana Territorieswith fellow French cartographer Joseph Warin and North American crew.Collot and crew focused on topography, frontier settlements, wildlife, and Native Americans. Collot returned to France after the expedition continuing his work forFrench military. He died in Paris in 1805 with his maps and manuscripts from his travels unpublished. In 1826 A. Bertrand published the works of Collot in a two-volume series in French and English.
