Title
A draft of the Ohio from an Indian account (1755)
Subject

Description
This is a pencil-drawn manuscript made by an unknown draftsman who attempted an artistic production with little training behind him. He also attempted to depict the Ohio and some of the surrounding country, with the benefit of precious little geographical information to fall back on except that which he put together from an Indian account... The fact that this map was found in the papers of General Thomas Gage is interesting, because it is not on a par with most of the other maps in the collection. And the vague information it contains leads one to believe that Gage received it during the first years of his tour of duty in America, when he was seeking information from every possible source on the location of the Indian nations he would have to deal with..."
